About Carol

Finding themselves empty nesters, Carol Dickson and her husband, Rob, moved to Santa Rosa Beach, Florida from the Eastern Shore of Maryland in 2001. In Maryland, Carol had a hobby that turned into a thriving business, weaving handmade baskets. "The basket business did not move with us, so I was looking for another creative avenue."

Carol's mom, who is an accomplished watercolorist, encouraged Carol to take art classes with her for many years, but it wasn't until February, 2005 that she finally was able to get Carol to her first watercolor class, in Destin, Florida. "When we walked out with a completed painting at the end of the first class, I was hooked." Watercolor painting has become a new passion in her life and has redirected her artistic path. This has proven it is never too late to try something new.

Since that time, Carol has been painting on a regular basis. The community in which she lives is such a beautiful place that everywhere she looks, there is a painting in the making. The colors of the sky, gulf and sand are the basis of many of Carol's paintings.

Carol continues to take classes to learn more about color, techniques and style. She is a member of the Cultural Arts Association, Women's Art Network and several painting groups. Currently, she is on the board of the Friends of the Coastal Branch Library and is coordinator for displaying artwork there each month.

Carol's artwork has graced the covers of the Beachcomber magazine in June, 2006 and the Forever Young publication in February, 2007. In the Thirty A Review magazine, May/June 2008 issue, Carol was featured in the Local Artist section. She also sells her watercolor note cards in a local shop in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida.

"A new project has taken off," says Dickson, "painting wedding invitations to give as gifts to the happy couple. Watercolors are transparent so the printing on the invitation shows through. They are suitable for framing and serve as a wonderful keepsake." Carol has been commissioned for work in the area and would love to paint something for you!
